Packaging fees are easier to plan when you can see how the figures are calculated. We have added an EKO-KOM fee estimator to the Kodo Portal so our packaging EPR clients can estimate the quantity-based charge before quarterly reporting.
The calculator is included at no extra charge with an active, fully paid Kodo packaging EPR service. There is no separate calculator subscription or charge for each estimate. Enter your packaging weights, select the relevant material and category, and see a breakdown of the estimated fee.
You can also save a scenario and send it to Kodo for review through the portal. That gives us the same figures to discuss when a weight or classification needs checking.
See the cost behind your packaging records
A business selling into Czechia may use several packaging components in a single delivery: a product box, paper inserts, protective material and an outer bag or carton. Each component contributes to the packaging records, but materials and classifications can carry different rates.
The calculator helps turn the weights you have collected into a budget estimate. It is useful when preparing a quarter's records, reviewing an unexpectedly high figure or exploring how a change in packaging weight could affect the charge.
The current release uses the 2026 EKO-KOM rate schedule and supports the four quarters of 2026. The official schedule is linked in the result, so you can see the source behind the calculation. EKO-KOM publishes its rates here.
What the calculator does
| Feature | What it helps you do |
|---|---|
| Select a reporting quarter | Keep an estimate tied to a specific period |
| Add separate packaging items | Keep different materials and categories visible |
| Enter weights in grams, kilograms or tonnes | Use the unit in your records without manually converting it |
| See the rate and amount for each line | Understand which items contribute to the estimate |
| See a quarterly total in CZK, excluding VAT | Plan for the estimated quantity-based packaging fee |
| Save named scenarios | Return to your own estimates and save revised versions |
| Ask Kodo to review a saved scenario | Discuss the calculation without copying it into another email |
The interface is available in English, Polish, German and Czech, on desktop and mobile.
The calculator works from total packaging weights for the selected period. It does not automatically work out those weights from orders, product photographs or an uploaded spreadsheet. If your starting point is a sales export or a supplier's packaging specification, we can agree how to prepare the underlying data as part of your service.
Which packaging can you estimate?
This first release covers supported combinations of single-use, non-beverage packaging without littering items. The available categories are sales packaging, grouped and transport packaging, and industrial packaging.
Depending on the category, the material choices include paper and cardboard, wood and chipboard, textiles, glass, steel, flexible and rigid aluminium, selected flexible and rigid plastics, EPS/XPS and certain recycled plastics. Not every material is available in every category.
Choosing the correct category matters. An outer carton used by an online shop should not automatically be assigned to a cheaper transport category simply because it travels with a parcel. Its actual function and use need to support the classification.
Reusable packaging, beverage packaging, composite materials, littering charges and uncertain classifications need a separate check. If an item does not fit the supported choices, ask Kodo rather than selecting the nearest-looking material.
A simple example
Suppose you have confirmed that two items belong to the supported sales-packaging category:
| Packaging | Quarterly weight | 2026 rate per tonne | Estimated charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper and cardboard | 100 kg | CZK 7,152 | CZK 715.20 |
| Flexible plastic, supported PET/PE/PP/PS/PVC entry | 10 kg | CZK 15,546 | CZK 155.46 |
| Total | CZK 870.66 |
These are illustrative quantities, calculated using the relevant entries in the official 2026 EKO-KOM price list. The example excludes VAT and assumes that no additional packaging items or special charges apply.
If the confirmed cardboard weight changes from 100 kg to 80 kg, while the plastic stays the same, the estimate becomes CZK 727.62. Saving each version makes it easier to compare the assumptions. Actual reporting must still use the packaging genuinely placed on the Czech market and the correct classification.
Keep three different costs separate
The calculator estimates the quantity-based packaging fee for the selected quarter. Two other costs remain separate:
- The annual EKO-KOM system fee: CZK 1,600 excluding VAT for the calendar year 2026. It is shown separately and is not added to each quarterly estimate.
- Kodo's service fee: the amount agreed in your service contract. It is not part of the calculator's packaging total.
The annual system fee is listed on EKO-KOM's official fees page. Keeping these amounts separate helps you distinguish the cost of the packaging from the cost of administering your Czech EPR obligations.
Save the estimate, then resolve questions with Kodo
Give your scenario a recognisable name, such as “Q4 packaging estimate”, and save it. If you revise the inputs, save a new scenario so you can return to the earlier version.
When something needs clarification, use “Ask Kodo to review”. The saved inputs and calculation are passed to our support workflow, giving us a shared reference for the discussion.
This is a preparatory step. The estimate is not an EKO-KOM invoice, a completed quarterly report or confirmation that your records contain every required item. Sending a scenario to Kodo does not submit anything to EKO-KOM.
Under our agreed Czech packaging EPR representation service, we work with you on the source data, resolve questions and prepare and submit the quarterly report. The calculator gives you an earlier view of the likely packaging charge within that process.
Included for our packaging EPR clients
We want clients to have practical tools alongside the reporting service. The estimator therefore comes with the active paid packaging EPR service, without an additional tool fee.
If you already use Kodo for packaging EPR, sign in to your portal and select EKO-KOM fee estimator. Access is linked to the relevant company's active paid service. If you have recently paid and the tool is still locked, contact us so we can check the payment assignment.
If you are new to Kodo, you can register for a client account free of charge and send us your company and packaging information. Account registration is free; access to this calculator starts with an eligible paid packaging EPR service.

Frequently asked questions
Is the packaging fee calculator free?
It is included at no additional charge for companies with an active, fully paid Kodo packaging EPR service. Creating a free portal account alone does not unlock it.
Does the calculator show exactly what EKO-KOM will invoice?
It provides an indicative quantity-based fee using the supported rates and the weights and classifications you enter. The final amount depends on complete, correct reporting and any applicable additional items or settlement rules. Invoice rounding may also differ.
Can I use it for every kind of packaging?
No. The current release supports selected single-use, non-beverage packaging without littering items. Ask Kodo about reusable packaging, beverages, composites and any material or category that is unclear or unavailable.
Can I compare packaging options before a quarter ends?
Yes. You can enter estimated weights, save named scenarios and create revised versions. Keep forecast scenarios separate from the actual figures used for reporting.
Does asking Kodo to review a calculation submit my quarterly report?
No. It sends the saved scenario to Kodo for review. Preparing and submitting the official report is a separate part of the agreed service.
Can it calculate WEEE or battery fees?
No. This calculator concerns Czech packaging fees under EKO-KOM. WEEE and batteries have separate reporting arrangements and charges.
Feature scope and rate references checked on 20 October 2026. This article describes the first release, which supports reporting periods in 2026.
