Selling to Czechia through marketplaces: EPR and records
A marketplace provides a sales channel. Your business still needs to establish its Czech responsibilities, the evidence behind its reports and who submits them.
An overseas brand may sell the same product to Czech customers through Amazon, Allegro, Kaufland and its own store. Orders appear in several systems, fulfilment adds packaging, and supplier documents use different product references.
For foreign online stores, manufacturers and larger sellers already serving Czechia, the practical challenge is connecting those records. A registration number cannot establish which packaging version accompanied a delivery or whether two exports contain the same order.
Kodo’s support for marketplace sellers in Czechia brings representation, reporting and focused documentation reviews together under separately agreed scopes. These marketplace names describe sales channels; Kodo is an independent service provider.
Establish the seller and supply route first
Record the legal entity selling the goods, its country of establishment, warehouse locations, customer destinations and whether customers buy for use or resale. Check what the marketplace and fulfilment contracts actually cover.
A marketplace account does not determine every obligation. Neither does a small sales volume establish a blanket exemption. The Commission’s packaging EPR guidance for small businesses distinguishes existing national requirements, phased registration changes and proposals still under examination. Do not wait for a platform to request a number before checking your position.
Four areas to review separately
EPR means extended producer responsibility: responsibility for a product’s waste stage. Here, packaging EPR is separate from electrical equipment and batteries. GPSR concerns consumer product safety.
| Area | When to review it | Records needed | Kodo’s work |
|---|---|---|---|
| Packaging EPR | Packaged goods or shipping packaging supplied into Czechia | Sales route, materials, component weights, shipment quantities | Packaging representation, onboarding, calculations and reporting; or a separate data review |
| WEEE: waste electrical and electronic equipment | Electrical products in the catalogue | Models, equipment categories, documented weights and Czech supplies | Product records, registration and reporting support under a separate scope and applicable appointment |
| Batteries | Batteries sold separately or incorporated in products | Battery type, category, weight and quantities supplied | Separate review and agreed registration or reporting work, with any required mandate |
| GPSR: General Product Safety Regulation | Consumer products, including foreseeable consumer use | Model identifiers, supplier evidence, labels, instructions and online offers | Advice and documentation reviews |
For packaging, the framework combines PPWR, Regulation (EU) 2025/40, generally applicable since 12 August 2026, with Czech requirements and the relevant scheme arrangements. Individual PPWR requirements have different dates.
Czech WEEE duties operate through Act No. 542/2020 Coll., including Section 61 on representatives for foreign distance sellers. The Commission confirms that the battery framework covers batteries inside products as well as separate batteries. One packaging appointment does not cover these other areas.
GPSR’s scope and definitions, Articles 2–3, require a product-specific assessment, including interaction with sector-specific safety legislation. It is not a blanket regime for purely industrial products without reasonably foreseeable consumer use.
One product, several channels: a hypothetical example
Imagine a foreign seller supplying a rechargeable desk lamp through three marketplaces and its own store. This is an illustrative example, not a client case.
Its quarterly files contain 500 Czech deliveries. Another export contains 120 of those marketplace orders because they also entered the central order system. Adding both files would count 620 deliveries. Matching channel order references to central records establishes the overlap.
Even the reconciled 500 deliveries do not reveal packaging weights. The lamp, its battery, retail carton, insert and shipping materials need their own documented specifications. A parcel’s gross weight cannot stand in for all those figures. Mixed orders may share one shipping box; packaging should follow actual packing records.
Keep cancelled orders, returns and deliveries outside Czechia identifiable. Review their treatment against the applicable period, evidence and methodology; do not automatically subtract every refund from every reporting stream. EKO-KOM publishes current reporting instructions and separate guidance around the August 2026 change.
If the supplier changed the carton mid-period, preserve both specifications and establish which deliveries used each. Missing facts become questions for the seller or supplier, rather than invented weights.
Prepare a working set before requesting processing
Start with:
- Company identity, country of establishment and the actual Czech sales model.
- Sample channel and central exports, including dates, destinations, quantities and order references.
- A catalogue mapping SKUs, variants, bundles and supplier model numbers.
- Documented packaging materials and weights, plus equipment and battery specifications where relevant.
- Supplier documents, labels, instructions and examples of live offers.
- Existing registrations, scheme contracts, previous returns and calculation files.
Agree the period and intended output. For a large catalogue, first reviewing a representative sample helps establish the preparation needed across the remaining records.
Agree who prepares, approves and submits
The client supplies and confirms complete, truthful source information, signs the required documents and approves prepared records. Kodo performs the agreed checks, calculations and preparation. Submission follows the actual mandate and service scope.
Kodo is registered with EKO-KOM as an authorised representative for foreign packaging producers. It represents the producer. A specific appointment requires written documents and onboarding; EKO-KOM describes that process separately.
Already registered? Keep your own scheme agreement and commission a review or preparation of reporting data. Agree explicitly who submits. Data preparation alone does not appoint Kodo as representative.
GPSR work has a different boundary: Kodo provides advice and documentation support, not an EU responsible person or GPSR authorised representative service. A review is not certification or a guarantee of marketplace approval. Technical risk assessments and testing require an appropriately qualified, separately agreed scope.
Use the portal to resolve specific gaps
The portal keeps documents, targeted requests, communication and work status together within activated services. Instead of asking for “better data”, a request can identify the two product variants missing packaging weights.
Account registration, basic orientation and help using the portal are free. Kodo reviews access before activating workspaces. Expert processing, audits and representation are paid services agreed before work begins. Registration creates neither a regulatory appointment nor an automated legal assessment.
