A company can look convincing online and still leave important questions unanswered. Our Partner Check now helps clients examine one proposed business relationship in six countries before making a commitment.
Kodo began with a focused Czech Partner Check: one company, one commercial decision and a report that separates what the evidence supports from what still needs to be confirmed. We have now extended the service to companies in Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia.
The aim remains practical. A client may be considering a distributor, supplier, customer or other commercial partner. Before granting exclusivity, offering payment terms or relying on that company for a launch, it helps to know which claims can be checked and which questions should be put directly to the business.
What we examine
We start with the decision the client needs to make, not with a generic database score. Depending on the country and the available records, a review can examine:
- the legal identity of the company and who is authorised to represent it;
- public registration, filings and financial information where available;
- relevant VAT, insolvency or other official status checks where applicable;
- the company's own claims about its activity, locations, products and market reach;
- independent public evidence that supports or challenges those claims;
- the gaps that matter before signing, shipping goods, extending credit or granting exclusivity.
The report explains when and where information was checked. It also distinguishes a confirmed fact from an inference or an unanswered question. A missing or outdated filing is not quietly treated as proof that everything is fine.
The local step when records are not enough
Sometimes the next question cannot be answered from a registry or a website. A client may want to know whether a stated office, shop or warehouse is operating as described, or may need specific questions put to the company's representative.
Kodo has business contacts in each of these six countries who can help us arrange a pre-agreed local verification when it is appropriate. Depending on the location, access and agreed scope, that may include a visit to the stated business premises, permitted observations and a short record of what was seen or discussed. We define who will carry out the visit, what can be checked and how the findings will be documented before work begins.
This is an optional step, not part of every desk-based report. It is not an undercover investigation, a financial audit or a guarantee of future performance. A visit cannot establish what a company will do next year, and access to private areas depends on the company's cooperation.
One method, different country conditions
The six countries do not publish identical company information. Filing rules, the depth of public records, language and the availability of current financial documents differ. Serbia also sits outside the EU, so we do not apply EU assumptions to its regulatory context without checking them.
For Czechia, our standard scope is published: one legal entity, one commercial decision, an English report, EUR 790 excluding VAT and a usual delivery time of 5–7 working days after complete inputs. An anonymised Czech sample report shows how we present findings, limitations and next questions. The Czech on-site option is priced separately.
For Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, we first review the company's identity, the question to be answered and the sources realistically available. We then propose the deliverables, timing and price in writing. Visits, interviews, paid records and specialist legal or tax advice are separate unless expressly included.
The main conclusion
A useful partner check does not promise certainty. It helps a client decide what to verify next, whether to proceed on limited terms or whether a deeper specialist review is justified. The right first step is to tell us which company is involved and what commitment is being considered.
How Kodo can help
Kodo reviews a proposed business partner against the commercial decision in front of the client. We connect official and public evidence with local context, explain the limits of what can be established and, where useful, arrange a separately scoped on-site check through our contacts in the relevant country.
We do not replace legal, tax, accounting or formal audit work. Where the decision calls for those opinions, they should come from qualified specialists.
